The Immortals
Re: the discovery of underwater remnants of an ancient civilization Off the coast of Peng Hu. Note: a closer look at some of the characters inhabiting our neighborhoods reveals a thread of intriguing personalities, seemingly out of Time, men and women who fell to Earth: bag ladies, vagrants, prophets, Illuminati, destitute monarchs, heirs in waiting, corner dealers of dreams and fables, charlatans, queen witches and vigilantes of a silent conjuration. Their costumes and posture bear witness to the folklore of an oriental Atlantis, otherworldly, and yet of our Earth. Listen closely to their fantastic ramblings: for they possess the nobility of the last of their kind.
Old Camera Shop
Stiff-lipped poses, razor-cut clothes frozen, rigid, and immobile. It's hard not to laugh seeing in old magazines what are now only fragmented remains of the past, yet on pages yellowed with age these same images hold a truth not readily found anymore and a visual honesty that transcends time itself. On a photograph four fingers long on each side, the image of a Japanese family, composed and at peace, remains imprinted in sepia upon grimy glass plate. Scavenged from the depths of an antique shop the picture, with a seriousness and veracity reflected in the family's attire, still manages to touch the soul. Perhaps it's too much to ask for those brought up on burgers and fries to understand. For over a decade the much-hyped digital revolution has raged across the island: photo development has been computerized, cameras digitized, and albums reduced to disks and folders, becoming in the process intangible and untouchable. Computers have become a commodity. Digital cameras mere accessories. Bai Gua, the fifties singer, has aged; portrait photographers have retired. What studios have remained are now hidden in alleys dank and dark, themselves nearing extinction. We look to the future, are poised for it, yet in our old albums gathering dust there wil always be an extra bit of warmth, hidden in silence and images cracked at the edges. There will always be a story, of lives and memories now faded, waiting only to be discovered again.
Fu-He Cinema
Once past Fu-He Bridge coming from the direction of KungKwan, take a left at the first stoplight. Turning right at the first alley, you'll see...that building. Yes, that building, and yet...to reach the theater you still have two flights of stairs to go...Yes, there's a traditional market on the two lower floors, where meats of every kind are never in short supply. On the third floor you'll find yourself surrounded by a ring of homes resembling cheap American motels, from which open doors might reveal TV's streaming beautiful young things, anchors broadcasting the evening news. And surrounded in the middle of these "homes"...besieged, really, and alone, is the late, great, and famed Fu-He Cinema.
TAIPEI 101
Exterior design is separated into 8 sections, each section having 8 levels. Symbol of Taipei 101: the shape of three old bronze Chinese coins, each one represents: office building、shopping mall and scenic platform. The number 101 is displayed in the center of the old bronze coin, representing the project is beyond completeness(100 ) and is pursuing higher perfection and achievements.
黑
"I'm afraid of dark." "But I feel safe in the dark night." 'Darkness' is the voice deep inside your soul. " 'Black' is comfortable, powerful and expressive," said Rei Kawa Kubo. 'Black' has become an eternal image of fashion. 'Black' also reminds people of films about gangsters by Japanese director Kitano Takeshi . 'Black' is a paradoxical fusion of cruel and tender. Black: mysterious, unknown. Objects with various colours are retrieved to a manifestation of black and darkness after burnt. Black is substance. 'Black' can also be solely a matter of materiality. 'Black' is in the suspension of time; in between each note on the scores. It's on the border among earth and sky... It is like a thought, a song, a poem.
